Fusing Reinforcement into Denim — Heat Activated Bonding | Episode 9

Produced in Istanbul — Episode 9 of the recycled denim shoe series.
The denim pieces may already be cut, but they are still too soft and unstable for shoemaking.
Now the reinforcement stage begins.
In this episode, self-adhesive reinforcement fabric is fused underneath the rough-cut denim components using a heated roller machine. The reinforcement material is activated by heat and pressure at the same time, permanently bonding itself into the denim structure.
This process is not simple gluing.
The heated rollers press the reinforcement deep into the fabric, almost welding the layers together. The result is a stronger, more stable material that can later handle stitching, shaping, and lasting without collapsing.
This is one of the hidden stages that transforms ordinary denim into real footwear material.
