HOST: Donni Wiggins

GUEST: Yamundow Camara
Yamu grew up in a small village in west Africa, the last of 7 siblings. At the age of 2, she lost her mom and at the age of 11, her dad too. But before her dad died, her elder sister took Yamu and her brother with her when she got married. In Africa, families live in extended households with the whole extended family. Yamu was always the kid that didn’t belong there because everyone else had the same last name except for her and her brother so she was made aware this is not their house/place.
She was around 8 years old and would wake up to kill mosquitoes and bed bugs from her clothes and would go back to sleep. So, she always dreamed of living in nice houses, beds, building her dad a nice place, etc. This is where Yamu’s love for houses came from when she passed by a nice house, she would always admire it.
After winning the fellowship (Mandela Obama Washington fellowship for young African leaders) award she was placed at Northwestern University in Evanston Il, and later flown to DC to meet President Obama. She later received a full scholarship to pursue a master’s degree from the University of Illinois and also work as research Data Analyst for one of their departments. She graduated with a Master of Science in Information’s Systems.
After a few months of following and listening to the podcasts, she bought her first investment property, a triplex, out of state and in July 2020 she bought another duplex, also out of state.
Fast forward Yamu is at 47 doors and more than 80k per month on cash flow. She recently bought an apartment complex of 12 units less than a mile from a hospital in a small town that she is currently fixing.
Yamu now has a mentorship program where she teaches people how to start investing in real estate.
