IVF Me Kitne Embryo Transfer Karne Chahiye? | Single vs Double Embryo Transfer | IVF Success Tips
Hello, friends!
Today, we are going to discuss an important question many patients ask us:
"Doctor, how many embryos should be transferred during IVF—one or two?"
Both options have their pros and cons. At our center, we usually transfer Day 5 embryos, also known as blastocysts. The reason behind this is that Day 3 embryos require a higher number of transfers to achieve pregnancy. However, when we culture embryos to the blastocyst stage, only the strongest and highest-quality embryos make it to this stage.
A key advantage of blastocyst-stage embryos is that they have already started expanding, making it easier to identify viable embryos. This helps us reduce the number of embryos transferred while maintaining success rates.
Now, the big question: Should one embryo be transferred or two?
There are only two choices—one or two embryos—as transferring three embryos is not recommended.
Pros and Cons of Transferring Two Embryos:
✅ Higher chances of success—both embryos may implant, or at least one may result in pregnancy.
❌ Increased risk of twins, which can lead to complications.
Some patients believe having twins is lucky, but medically, it is not always ideal. A woman’s uterus is naturally designed to carry one baby at a time. Twin pregnancies come with risks such as:
Premature birth, leading to time in the NICU.
One baby may have developmental delays compared to a singleton pregnancy.
Pros and Cons of Transferring One Embryo:
✅ Reduces the risk of twin-related complications.
❌ If the single embryo fails to implant, another transfer may be required.
At our center, we provide both options to the patient and let them decide. However, if you ask for a doctor's recommendation, we generally advise transferring only one embryo. This ensures that the overall pregnancy success rate remains high, while also eliminating the risks associated with twins.
Thank you! 😊
