Declared dead then detained: The story of a Palestinian girl and her missing brother

After receiving a death certificate for her daughter Malak, Palestinian mother Tahrir Abu Madi was shocked to discover that Malak is listed as a detainee in Israeli prisons.
In February 2024, Malak returned to the family home in west Khan Younis to collect belongings when Israeli forces stormed the area. Four relatives were later found executed and burned, reportedly while handcuffed.

Despite being officially declared dead, Malak’s name later appeared on a detainee list. Her son, Yousef, remains missing. The case raises serious questions of executions, enforced disappearance, and accountability, with no answers yet provided.
