Blood tests that check your iron levels - what the results can mean

If you’ve had testing for iron levels and received the results, this short video helps explain the most common items you’ll see on the form and talks about what the results can tell your doctor. These blood tests are used to check your body’s iron levels to see if you have too little (anaemia) or too much (overload, haemochromatosis).

It shows an example of a test results form and talks about the various components, including iron, transferrin, transferrin saturation and ferritin. It discusses what the levels should be and how they are compared with reference intervals (reference ranges).
