Wyzecam is arguably the best cheap security camera available and coming in at 20 dollars you can easily have them all around your house for a video survalliance system, but what about using it as a baby video monitor? Lets check it out!

Hey guys Joshua here with Gross Tech where we talk about smart home technology and look if they are worth it.

So Wyzecam came onto the scene in a very expensive genre and has been blowing up. Just recently they have created their second version, v2 and have both broken their site with so many preorders and have many tech sites talking all about them. And at 20 bucks, whats not to love, you get the camera, a quick start guide, mounting parts, and the power block and cable. This camera has 1080P full hd video, a two way audio, motion, sound, smoke and CO detection, and night vision.

The camera is housed in this white 2 inch cube, with the adjustable stand. On the back there is a power plug as well as another standard USB port for pulling footage off, and a micro sd card slot to record to there. The nice thing is this base and camera is magnetic. So you can mount this with the included metal circle or just find a metal surface to pop it onto.

So yes, for $20 you get so much, but how does this do as a baby monitor? Well first off, its what my wife and I use. A lot of baby cameras either have a poorer quality video, have horrible night vision, or are just way too expensive. With the night vision, as you can see, the video looks great and can easily see my son while he is sleeping. Being able to check in not just here at home but anywhere with the app on your phone. The app is very intuitive and you can set up notifications to not only tell you when your child is moving but also if they are crying. But you don’t want to have that on while you are home because it is going to go off nonstop. Yes you can change the sensitivity but what I found works even better is being able to schedule when the notifications occur. So we have it set that it will notify us from 11 pm till about 7 am. That way we get the notifications when they are important, not when the wind blows the curtains during the day. So we get the notification as well as a recording of what that event was. Now it comes with 14 days free cloud recordings but you can also put your own micro sd card in there as well.
The nice thing for my wife is that she can check on him without going into the room. If she wants to make sure he doesn’t have his blanket covering his face, or has a leg stuck out of the crib. Because we found out the hard way with her going into the room, he wakes up.
Being able to listen as well as talk through the camera comes in handy to be able to talk to both your child as well as to your wife if needed is handy as well.

Now there are higher end baby monitors out there, the Arlo, the lollipop, and the list could continue. But they all have the main same points…but you can spend over $200! That’s crazy, and me, I’m not spending that much on a baby monitor
