World's Oldest McDonald's Restaurant - Downey - California

Oldest-operating McDonald's on the planet, located at the intersection of Lakewood Boulevard and Florence Avenue, in Downey, California.

It still has the two original Golden Arches and the animated neon Speedee sign.

Here is a bit of history :

This restaurant - 3rd of the chain - was originally opened by Roger Williams and Bud Landon on August 18, 1953. They purchased franchise rights from the McDonald brothers, prior to the brand being bought out by Ray Kroc in 1961.

It is the second restaurant franchised by Richard and Maurice McDonald.

The first restaurant of the McDonald brothers - 1st of the chain - in San Bernardino, California, and the first franchise - 2nd of the chain - in Phoenix, Arizona, have been demolished...

Not to be confused with Kroc's first drive-in - 9th of the chain - in Des Plaines, Illinois. That restaurant was also demolished but a replica has been built and branded as McDonald's USA First Store Museum.

So this is the video of the real thing.

A historical place in America.

UPDATE - July 2017 : According to Fox News, the owners have requested approval from the city to add a drive-through to the infrastructure soon.
