Boss Cap Fins (PBCF) | VICUSdt Engineering

In this video, we show boss cap fins (PBCF) currently being manufactured and explain how they improve ship propulsion efficiency.

In conventional propellers, a hub vortex forms behind the propeller boss cap, representing rotational energy losses that reduce efficiency. Boss cap fins are designed to interact with this vortex, partially recovering swirl energy and reducing propeller torque.

As a passive and cost-effective Energy Saving Device (ESD), a properly designed PBCF can typically deliver 1–2% power savings at given operating conditions.
