Yud Tet Kislev marks the day on which Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi was released from the Czarist prison and a certain sentence of death. It is also the day of passing, the yarhzeit, of his teacher, the Maggid of Mezritch, Rebbe Dov Ber, who succeeded the Ba'al Shem Tov as the leader of the Chasidic movement.
