“SHIVA SHANKARA” started with a phone conversation with Shankar ji (Mahadevan) - the “Bhakti” in Shankar jis voice is unparalleled - in seconds he can take you to a different realm. Lord Shiva’s instrument of choice is the damaru. In the canvas of my mind I see Lord Shiva in deep meditation with the sound of the “damaru” taking us to a trance-like state. But not in my wildest imagination could I conceive that I would have the best ever representation of the "damaru" in Shiva Shankara. When I reached out to Ustad Zakir Hussain Sahib, it was beyond elated that I could have both these iconic, legendary masters in one song - especially since personally, both of them are not only mentors but also the greatest source of inspiration.

Shiva consciousness is a philosophy which pervades every aspect of our lives. It’s a revalidation that as human beings we have both light and dark / yin and yang in us. Every moment, every thought, every musical phrase, every emotion is born and dies and is again reincarnated in another form. It is this constant process of creation, preservation, destruction that I was inspired by.
