"I came to Bombay with thirty rupees in my pocket" : Dev Anand

Indian actor Dev Anand speaks about his struggle to become an actor, he says, "My father was a great lawyer of his own times in a place called Gurdaspur, Gurdaspur was in the news these days, the border town between India and Pakistan. I did my first schooling in Gurdaspur which is in Gurdaspur and Dalhousie. I used to be in school in Gurdaspur during summer and shift to Dalhousie, a hill station in convent and then I did my matriculation in Gurdaspur and then I went to Dharamshala which is in Himachal and then to Lahore for my graduation. After my graduation, I had not been there because I decided to come away be on my own. I want to be known to the world and when you have people around you who pull you down to their own affiliations and affections and persuade you to do something that you do not want to do then you can;t really achieve something so I had the smell of different places and I had the wanderlust I wanted to do something I just relieved its effect literally with 30 rupees in my pocket I came to Bombay I had no more than 30 rupees in my pocket. The only possessions I had with more than one would stamp collection of the philatelist and which I sold on the road to a pavement seller because I needed money. I used to walk and I had no job, I did a job for 60 rupees a month, I started in ten days then I did a job of 85 rupees a month and chucked it in five days then I did a job for military sensors for one year and three months which I chucked because I thought if I keep doing this job I'll lose all that I have in terms of my restlessness, I am basically very restless.
