Antonio Vivaldi - Concerto for 2 Mandolins and Orchestra (RV532) by Het CONSORT

Antonio Vivaldi (1678 - 1741) composed his Double Concerto for two mandolins (RV532) for the girls of the 'Ospedale della Pietà'. This 'Ospedale della Pietà' was a girls orphanage ánd a music school in Venice where, from 1704, Antonio Vivaldi held the post of the main violin tutor and where he, from 1713 till 1740, was appointed as its foremost composer. It is the place where he composed most of his wonderful music.

Here the concerto, with its three movements 'Allegro - Andante - Allegro' is played, filmed at a concert performed by the Dutch Mandolin Chamber Orchestra Het CONSORT on June 7th 2014 in the English Reform Church at the Begijnhof in Amsterdam. The soloists are two members of this orchestra, Sebastiaan de Grebber and Ferdinand Binnendijk.

Thanks go to all musicians involved and especially so to Jan Ulderink and Jan Penninkhof for making the videos, to David Miller for the excellent sound recording of this concerto and to the editor of this video.
