Cartier Pasha and Cartier Roadster GMT: Cartier Luxury Watch Double-Feature

Cartier is a perennial leader in high-style wristwatch fashion. But the Paris-based, Swiss-made watchmaker also knows how to get its feet wet. The Cartier Pasha Automatic and Cartier Pasha Roadster GMT are Cartier's active lifestyle luxury watches from opposite ends of the 20th century.

The Cartier Pasha was launched in 1933 as a bespoke project for the Pasha of Marrakesh. One of the original sports watches, the "Pasha" quickly earned its nickname as the go-to for its namesake's desert hunting and coastal diving excursions.

The Cartier Pasha's signature element was its cabochon-capped "canteen" crown retained by a security chain; this key element endures into the 21st century on the Cartier Pasha Automatic in 18-karat gold.

Revived in 1985 with input from legendary watch designer Gerald Genta, the Cartier Pasha gained a unidirectional bezel and dispensed with its crystal-shielding metal grid. Altogether, Genta's massage to the original yields a more elegant watch that nevertheless retains an impressive 100m (330ft) water resistance rating.

An accessory leather strap and Cartier box set accompanies this superb example of the Cartier Pasha Automatic.

The Cartier Roadster GMT is part of the Roadster family that debuted in 2002 as Cartier's sports watch for a new millennium. The 43x48mm stainless steel case is highly contoured and capped with a unique tapered date magnifier that merges with the flowing lines of the crown shoulders.

The Roadster's dial is styled to evoke the dashboard instruments of classic 1950s and 1960s sports cars. It combines traditional Cartier design elements like the elongated Roman numerals, sector minute track, and hidden "Cartier" signature.

Like the Pasha, the Cartier Roadster GMT enjoys a 100m (330ft) water resistance. The Roadster's unique tool-free "quick release" bracelet system allows users to swap the bracelet for a compatible Cartier strap in leather or rubber with nothing more than a finger nail.
