Vision Problems and Social Security Disability Claims
There are two theories of #disability that apply when you are applying for Social Security #disabilitybenefits based on vision issues. If you meet a listing at 2.02, 2.03 or 2.04, you will likely be approved early without the need of a hearing.
However, as I discuss in this video, if your loss of visual acuity is not at listing level, you can argue that your inability to see clearly contributes to your loss of capacity to reliably perform even a simple, entry-level job.
My experience has been that if you have a non-listing level #visualimpairment, you will need evidence of some other significant medical or psychological issue to convince an #SSDI judge that you cannot perform any type of work. If you vision is consistently blurred, you would not be able to perform jobs around hazardous equipment, or work at unprotected heights, or work at a job that requires reading or fine visual acuity. However, to win disability you need to show that you could not perform entry-level repetitive work that does not require clear vision - jobs like being a hand packer or foil wrapper.
Whether you are at listing level or not, you will also need medical evidence from an opthamologist or other vision specialist documenting the type of visual impairment you have and its level of severity. #socialsecuritydisabilityandvisualimpairment #blindnessandsocialsecuritydisability #meetsocialsecuritylisting #disabilityhearing #socialsecuritydisabilityjudge
