Jyoti is the story of a strong and responsible young woman who sacrifices her dreams to support her family. She works two jobs—one at an orphanage and another as a Kathak dance teacher. Her life takes several painful turns: her fiancé Brij cheats on her with her younger sister Sushma, and later she finds out that Sushma and Sandeep are not her real siblings. Jyoti then falls in love with and marries a rich blind man named Pankaj, but trouble follows when she discovers her real sister Sudha has a double personality. Sudha secretly marries Pankaj's cousin Uday, which causes problems for Jyoti. Eventually, Jyoti learns that Brij abuses Sushma, and after helping her sister, she becomes a target again when Brij pretends to be friends with Pankaj to harm her. Misunderstandings lead Pankaj to throw Jyoti out, not knowing she is pregnant. He later finds out but still refuses to accept her or the child, and files for divorce.

Jyoti eventually divorces Pankaj and falls in love with Kabir, a colleague. Though her family initially disapproves, Kabir wins them over. They support Sushma and Brij’s reunion, and Kabir proposes to Jyoti. When Pankaj tries to steal their baby after Jyoti gets injured, he lies to everyone that the child is dead. Jyoti later finds out the truth—her baby Roshni is alive but has leukemia, and the only way to save her is to have another child with Pankaj. With Kabir’s support, she agrees to artificial insemination. Just before Jyoti gives birth, enemies sent by Kabir’s aunt attack him, but Pankaj sacrifices his life to save him. Jyoti gives birth to a baby boy, and both her children survive. Later, Kabir’s evil aunt is killed by her own son. The story ends on a happy note, with a grown-up Roshni asking Jyoti to tell the inspiring and emotional story of her life.
