Hip Hop Appreciation Week 2019 - Barrie Performances
Ernie Paniccioli - A Celebration of Hip Hop Appreciation Week
Presented by HipHopNrthrn and The Temple of Hip Hop, in partnership with the city of Barrie.
For the first time ever in Barrie's history, at the acclaimed downtown Five Points Theatre, Sunday May 19th featured a presentation from world famous legendary Hip Hop photographer Brother Ernie Paniccioli. Celebrating the 21st annual Hip Hop Appreciation Week, and the release of his #1 selling book on Amazon, Hip Hop At The End of The World. Brother Ernie Paniccioli is a pioneer, visionary, historian, activist, and highly respected elder in Hip Hop culture. He has been documenting Hip Hop since its beginnings in New York City in the early 70's. He has traveled the world presenting his work and speaking at all sorts of educational and cultural engagements; including being the keynote speaker at the United Nations May 16th 2001 during the presentation of the International Hip Hop Declaration of Peace.
He is a Vietnam war veteran, is the Supreme Minister of Culture in The Universal Zulu Nation, was inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame in 2014, has had the largest one person photo exhibit on display in New York City history at the Urban Experience Museum, has won a Tribeca film festival Best Documentary award for a documentary on his life and career called The Other Side of Hip Hop: The Sixth Element, and has photographed everyone from James Brown to Snoop Dogg to the Dalai Lama, just to list a few of his accomplishments.

Hip Hop Appreciation Week began in 1998 and runs every third week in May as a time to acknowledge and appreciate the actual existence of Hip Hop itself. Instead of wondering what happened to “real Hip Hop,” Hip Hop Appreciation Week is an opportunity to answer that question; to become a supporter of Hip Hop’s original culture, and not just an exploiter of Hip Hop’s original arts. This year Hip Hop Appreciation Week is May 12 th to May 20 th 2019 . Our theme this year is FOCUS . (Follow One Course Until Success)
