Ottawa's first romance bookstore drew a block-long lineup

Evermore Books, Ottawa's first bookstore dedicated exclusively to romance novels, opened on Bank Street in the Glebe to a lineup that stretched around the block. CTV's Kimberley Johnson reports that the store carries more than 1,000 titles spanning contemporary, fantasy and 2SLGBTQ+ romance. Owner Amanda Holmes says she first joked about quitting her job to open a romance bookstore in the spring of 2025 before deciding to follow through on the idea. Holmes credits the rise of BookTok on social media for helping normalize romance as a genre and drive demand for a dedicated space. Customer Meaquia Pardo and reader Stephanie Speer were among those who turned out for the opening. Romance novel specialty bookstores also exist in Toronto and Vancouver.
