Corps tests spillway gates on Savannah River dams, July 2013

Check out this dramatic video of spillway gate tests on the Upper Savannah River Basin. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District conducted the tests at the Hartwell, Richard B. Russell and J. Strom Thurmond Dams July 10 and 11, 2013. As part of the Dam Safety Program, we check the spillway gate mechanism to ensure they can be properly activated in an emergency.
