Shelly Presence Gen 4 Review and Setup, mmWave Sensor, Home Assistant, HomeKit and Aqara

In this video, I take a detailed, real world look at the Shelly Presence Gen 4, including installation, setup in the Shelly app, Home Assistant integration, HomeKit via Matter Bridge, Aqara app setup, automations, and my first impressions.

This is part 3 of my Shelly series, following the Shelly Plus Plug UK and Shelly Duo Bulb Gen 3. In this video, I bring everything together using a true presence sensor powered by mmWave radar, rather than traditional motion detection.

Unlike PIR sensors, the Shelly Presence Gen4 can detect actual presence, even when you are sitting still. It also supports multi-zone detection, multiple occupants, and fine tuning, making it much more advanced for automations.

One of the standout features here is the ability to detect multiple people at once and maintain occupancy even when there is no movement. This makes it ideal for spaces like living rooms, offices, and bedrooms where traditional motion sensors often fail.

The sensor supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Matter, and can be integrated into multiple smart home ecosystems at the same time. In my setup, I show how it works across Home Assistant, Apple Home, and Aqara, all updating in real time.

You also get a huge amount of control in the Shelly app, including:

• Detection zones and sensitivity tuning
• Radar configuration and mounting adjustments
• Light level thresholds for smarter automations
• Presence and absence timing
• Advanced fine tuning options

In my testing, the response time is extremely fast, especially once integrated into Home Assistant. This makes it ideal for automations like lighting, heating, and occupancy-based routines.

One important note for Alexa users:
The Shelly Presence Gen4 currently appears as a motion sensor only, rather than a full presence sensor. This is due to platform limitations rather than the device itself.
