Kids Friendly Guide to Keppel Hill Reservoir | Seah Im Bunker | Explore Singapore

About this video :
About one-third the size of a modern Olympic-sized swimming pool, Keppel Hill Reservoir is shrouded in mystery and has only been officially rediscovered in 2014. It first became known as Keppel Harbour Power Station Reservoir in 1905 and eventually, it turned into a leisurely spot for nearby residents who used it as a swimming pool. Along the way, the reservoir disappeared off government survey maps during the 1950s, and remained forgotten for the next six decades or so.

How to Get there:
Start your visit at Seah Im Open Carpark located just across the road from Seah Im Food Centre and a 10-minute walk from Harbourfront MRT station. Head to the top-most left corner of the carpark and you will see a sign with the description of the Heritage Tree. Go past the green fence, and follow the man-made trail.

The first check-point you see after less than a minute of walking is a forgotten Seah Im bunker. Though little information is known, it was probably used to imprison Prisoners-Of-War (POWs) or as a storage place for war equipment during WWII.
Take steep and narrow trail from here where climbing on all fours might be necessary. After the climb, you should arrive at a stretch of paved road with a "Y" junction, take the left path which leads you down a concrete road and you will see a muddy trail. Continue on the man-made trail, where the final 'landmark' before reaching the reservoir is a concrete beam over a small stream. Throughout the area, one can see the remnants of the reservoir's past uses, like flight of steps leading down to the reservoir. There isn't really much to do here except to just admire the tranquilty of the place. On the evening of 6th April 1936, two British soldiers, Private Alfred Birch and Francis Hubbard, drowned in the reservoir.

Path on the east side of reservoir starts with a small flight of concrete stairs and leads you to another forgotten relic at southern slope of Mount Faber. Hidden in forested slope is a tombstone commemorating a Japanese who worked in Singapore during 1940s as a civilian naval engineer for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

After this you can keep pushing along the narrow man-made trails and you finally reach the summit of Mount Faber.
