Here I present a series of photographs oif the great Port city of Vladivostok. During the early years of the Soviet Union, the Bolsheviks understood the strategic importance of the city. Reconstruction of the port was undertaken and in the early 1930s direct air service to Moscow began, and in 1932 the city became the base of the Pacific Naval Fleet.
Three theatres and three cinemas were opened in the city in 1931. The city was also designated by Stalin as a "closed city" from the late 1930s.
