Consuelo Colomer pianist (Albeniz, Von Appledorn and Chopin)

Consuelo Colomer Francés (Alcoy, Valencian Country, March 29, 1930 - Creixell, Catalonia, February 29, 2016) was a Valencian pianist and composer. Her international career, led her to tour much of the West and Middle East, including countries such as France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Egypt, Syria, Greece, and many others.
June 5th, 1947 she won first prize at graduation from the conservatory of Valencia. Leaving Valencia to study at the Marshall academy in Barcelona, with Mercedes Roldos and Frank Marshall. She studied with Marshall for three years, until finishing with the first prize with distinction of virtuosity that granted the academy at that time. The jury for this competition included Marshall himself, as well as pianist Alicia de Larrocha.
In 1950 she then went to Paris to study with the famous pedagogue Marguerite Long, but often returned to Barcelona and Alcoy to continue giving concerts in Catalan towns. In view of the Marguerite Long International Competition, Colomer applied for a new scholarship, which was awarded on November 13, 1952, consisting of 5,000 pesetas per month for 6 months, a fortune for the time.
On April 28, 1953, Marguerite Long scheduled another concert at the Pleyel Hall. This concert was widely announced, and was attended by Spanish and French political representatives, as well as many critics. Ernesto La Orden Miracle and Eduardo Ibañez attended as representatives of the Franco government, along with embassy staff, but also members of the Republican government in exile. There was also Halffter, a prestigious musician of the 27th generation. Everyone was very pleased with the performance, and positive reviews began to be published in newspapers of both nations. Consuelo was accused by supporters of the regime of being a "revolutionary artist" and of the exiles as "the official representative of the Franco regime".
On June 20 of the same year she was invited to the Long-Thibaud competition in the Pleyel Hall. There were already rumors that she would be disqualified premeditatedly, due to political accusations against her. Once the results came out, she had been eliminated from the first phase, which provoked many protests, even requiring the intervention of the police to dissolve them. Eventually, the first place was left unallocated, but no recognition was given to Consuelo. To provide her with "musical justice", Consuelo entered the Geneva International Competition in 1954, but again due to political influence, she was denied an international visa to travel and missed the competition. A difficult period began where she was discriminated against for political reasons when she was actually an apolitical person.
On February 10, 1966, he embarked on his second international tour of Greece, Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon, and returned to the Middle East in October. She also composed children's songs for her sister, who was a teacher. It was on this trip that she met her future husband Julio Cortés. Antonio Massana (September 7) and pianist Marguerite Long died in September of the same year.
In 1967 she gave several concerts, and recorded for a television program. While she was taking a short break to play in the Middle East and Greece, she was surrounded by a coup d'état, and had to cancel concerts in the region. On here marriage to Julio Cortes she moved to the United States in 1968.
On November 28 she returned to Barcelona, because in January 1971 she began a new tour of Europe which ended at the Sala Gaveau in Paris on February 26. From there she formed a friendship with both the composer and his wife Vicoria Kamhi, pianist. Rodrigo's Piano and Orchestra Concerto was re-released on May 18 in the evening and May 19 in the morning in 1974 at the Palau de la Música. The Barcelona City Orchestra was conducted by Antoni Ros-Marbà and the piano by Consuelo Colomer. In 1981 she performed again at the Heroic Concert at the Palma Auditorium, and later continued touring the United States at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium in North Carolina, or the Durham County Chapter, among others.
In 2011 the Calderon Theater gave rise to the concert in honor of Consuelo Colomer and presented his biography written by Juan Javier Gisbert, called Consuelo Colomer: a life on the keyboard. The concert was mainly performed by soprano Rosa Mateu and pianist Mac McClur later took on the stage by surprise with Consuelo her former student Alejandra Pacheco, playing two of her pieces.
