As for the plot, it's a story about dynastic wars, but whether Maud was the late king's daughter/sister, or Henry and Maud were both nephews/cousins to the previous monarch, or there was another blood connection - you decide. The point is, succession wasn't undisputable, and the nobles who had once sworn allegiance to Henry and Maud started a new fight for the throne shortly after the king's untimely demise.
