Smart Devices, Dumb Resets? Testing Firmware Persistence in Commercial IoT at DefCamp 2025

A DefCamp 2025 presentation by Matei Josephs, Senior Security Researcher

The most important annual hacking and cybersecurity conference in Central and Eastern Europe returned to Bucharest on November 13-14, 2025, for the 15th anniversary edition of DefCamp, the longest-running cybersecurity and technology event in Romania and the region.

Since 2011, DefCamp has brought together more than 17,000 participants from over 60 countries, becoming a strategic meeting point for the technical community, public institutions, academia, and the private sector.

The 2025 edition welcomed over 2,200 participants from more than 50 countries, including cybersecurity professionals, decision-makers, business leaders, and high school and university students, highlighting once again the diversity and relevance of the event.

DefCamp 2025 reaffirmed its role as a key collaboration platform for strengthening digital resilience, supported by 90 speakers - the largest number to date - who delivered in-depth, complementary perspectives. The conference focused strongly on the growing impact of artificial intelligence, underlining a shared conclusion: AI is no longer just a trend, but a foundation shaping the future of cybersecurity.
