How To Care For Chickens & Ducks In Unexpected Cold Temperatures

With temperatures expected to reach near record lows in the southern U.S. later this week, I wanted to share this to help out any chicken & duck keepers who aren't prepared for this type of weather.

While ducks & chickens normally do an amazing job of staying warm all on their own, we have to consider that the ones in the south haven't had time to adjust to the cold, they may be less cold hardy breeds, and their coops are built to keep heat out in the summer time.

Additional tip(s): Give them a thick layer of bedding & a place to get up off the ground. Hay bales work great to keep them off the ground, but if you don't have one a tree stump will work in a pinch.
