As part of its broader efforts to maximize diversity and representation on its platform, YouTube has this week announced the participants in its #YouTubeBlack Voices program, which is part of a $100 million, multi-year project that was first announced back in June 2021. The highly contested annual list recognizes original YouTube content creators from various genres including art, finance, business, comedy, education, health and wellness.

Nozibele Qamngana-Mayaba is a YouTuber, an HIV activist, a social entrepreneur and a self-published author. Her first book, I Am Still Me, is based on her life living positively with HIV since 2013. Since its launch in 2020, it has sold more than 5000 copies in South Africa. In 2021, she launched her second offering, a children’s book. I Am Still Zuri is based on the character of Zuri. A 7-year-old girl that was born with HIV. With over 2 million children living with HIV, Nozibele aims to destigmatize HIV to a language that children understand. Her self-titled YouTube channel, with 163 000 subscribers and 9 million views, was named by FeedSpot as one of the Top 15 HIV YouTube channels on the web. Nozibele has made it her mission to hold open conversations about her journey living with HIV.
