Movie Synopsis for Big (1988)
12-year-old Josh has some complaints about his age: he’s too short to ride the loop-the-loop roller coaster, and too young to win over the girl he likes… So he drops a 25-cent coin into an old wishing machine at the amusement park and wishes to become an adult.
Unexpectedly, when he wakes up the next day, Josh finds himself nearly 20 years older overnight—now he’s a full-grown adult. Even his mother mistakes him for a stranger who kidnapped her son and chases him out of the house.
Left to fend for himself, Josh lands a job at a toy company. By chance, his childlike innocence and enthusiasm leave a deep impression on the company’s boss. His ideas also earn him frequent praise at work: soon, he moves into a spacious apartment and starts a romantic relationship with his young colleague Susan.
However, as the pressures of the adult world—work, life, and love—begin to close in on Josh, his 13-year-old heart gradually feels tired and lost. He starts to wonder: is this really the “growing up” he wanted…
