EURO NYMPHING on the SMITH RIVER, VA

Spent a windy/chilly first day of Spring in South Central, VA euro nymphing the Smith River. It was the first time fishing here and it didn't disappoint. Caught a ton of fish. Half wild brown trout and the other half stocked rainbows.

The flies for the day were a size 16 Olive flash perdigon, size 16 Hare's Ear blowtorch and a size 20 olive France Midge.

Being that it was the first time fishing here, I did a little digging on what to expect when I hit the river. I used Google Earth to pinpoint the areas to hit. (Google Earth is a fantastic tool when fishing new water.) Each spot I targeted produced fish.
