Nathan Prunes a Neglected Coast Pine Japanese Style (Year One)

Years before, this coast pine tree had been pruned out in then iwaki style of Japanese pruning, but had been let go. When the tree came to me, it was a solid undifferentiated mass of overgrowth and with many dead interior branches and needles. It was my job to return the tree to its former glory. This meant removing the dead stuff and many criss-crossing branches. This was done in the spring, and was the first step in restoration process. The next video shows what the tree looked like a year later and the second round of restorative pruning that I did at that time.
