But this one is a VERY different one……

81 year old Elly Ney in a piece that was not often performed in the mid 1960s…..

This is a very strong Choral Fantasia. Deep in meaning, sometimes slower than other interpretations but always heroic and full of joy.

Elly Ney settled in Tutzing (south of Munich) in 1931 after having lived near New York for ten years and having enjoyed a successful career on both sides of the Atlantic.

In 1931 Elly Ney founded the Beethoven Festival in Bonn and in the 1950 she founded the Brahms Festival in Tutzing, where Brahms spent his holidays and composed several important works.

Her chauffeur and dear friend Fritjof von Bodungen recorded reel to reel tapes during those concerts at Brahms Festival between 1962 and 1964. Elly Ney‘s last pupil Erhard Mitschischek also recorded some concerts. Some of these tapes – including both Brahms piano concertos - were kindly given to me around 2008 by Dr. Mitschischek. After having survived in my private archive for many years I decided to upload some of these gems for the many Elly Ney fans all around the world.
