Shoe Making Film: THE BRUNSWICK - by bespoke shoemaker CARREDUCKER for the Design Museum, London

We created this film for the Design Museum, London where our work is part of the permanent collection, DESIGNER, MAKER USER.

The film shows how to make a pair of boots from insoles to finishing the traditional, English handsewn way. It includes close up filming of all the processes in making shoes by hand the traditional way - blocking, skiving, welting, fudging, boning, stitching, heel building and finishing.

The film was made by Camilla Corr for Carreducker with additional music is by Keith Johnson

ABOUT CARREDUCKER
We're bespoke handsewn shoemakers based in Shoreditch, in London's creative east end.

After traditional apprenticeships in handsewn shoemaking with a master shoe maker for John Lobb, we started our own business together in 2004.

BESPOKE
We make Bespoke Handsewn and Bespoke Manufactured shoes and boots for private individuals from all over the world, here at our workshop in Shoreditch. Style, comfort, fit and detailing are our watch-words and we're renown for our use of vegetable tanned leathers, colour and design, making for an individual's personal style and taste.

LEARN SHOE MAKING

We realised early on how important it is to the trade to pass on our skills, knowledge and techniques, so we have been teaching shoemaking to enthusiasts from around the world since 2006. We've honed the courses over the years, so that they are ideal for beginners and experts alike; there are introductory classes in hand lasting, hand welting and the full handsewn process (some 200+ steps); pattern making for bespoke shoes; closing (stitching the uppers); and leather work classes to learn saddle stitch and make leather accessories. We also run masterclasses in specialist handsewn techniques including bevelled waist, fiddle waist, Norwegian welt and Storm welt; shoe care classes to learn how to look after and glacage (high shine) leather shoes, usually over a glass of single malt; and deliver fun, team building and brand event experiences.

You can learn with us 1-to-1 or join a small group class of up to 6 people for shoe making and 8 - 12 for leather work, so there is plenty of hands-on demonstration, guidance and advice. There are also comprehensive course notes for each class and we encourage you to take your own films, photos and notes throughout the course.
