Ryan Bourne and William Darity believe there should be alternatives to raising minimum wage
When asked whether the federal minimum wage should be raised to help low-income workers, both Ryan Bourne of the Cato Institute and William A. Darity of Duke University said the importance of an increased minimum wage has been overstated. Bourne believes we need a ‘much bigger focus’ on issues that affect the poor like the cost of housing while Darity said he’s advocated for a federal job guarantee, an alternative to minimum wage that would give adults unable to find work in the private sector, a job with the federal government.
