Petosky is named after the chief (petosega) whose mom was full Odawa, and Dad was a French tradesman. He later became a well respected businessman, and then appointed to chief of Odawa at the time. You can visit a statue there of him, the petosky stones were named after him, then later the city named it after the stones and him for the honor.
