How fast can a mole dig?

Ever wondered just how fast the British mole can dig itself into the ground? Probably not :-)
This quick video shows just how quick they can do it, and apparently they can dig up to 30 metres a day underground...thats some going!

Moles have a challenging relationship with man. Their runs can assist drainage, but on the whole they are seen as an agricultural pest. The molehills, that they push up, become a seedbed for weeds, listeria in the soil can get into haulage and sileage when it is cut, causing milk yields to drop, and eye infections in cattle, and the molehills can damage agricultural machinery.

Apart from that, they are a fascinating creature, whose fur doesn't lie in one direction, like all other mammals, and it lives on a 4 hour shift pattern.......4 hrs sleeping and 4hrs working.

Enjoy.
