Gear DOES matter! Nikon FM2n impressions & Photos

This video has taken me weeks to finally put together, and it's not the video as such is technically crafted it is because I have been stuck in a creative rut. Having a creative block I haven't been inspired to shoot and so found doing a video was hard going. Its not like I haven't tried, I have lots of partial footage of going out to event, but not completing the video because I wasn't inspired to shoot.

This I think has come down to a few thing, one being I had yet again scratched my film and was not wanting to go out because I didn't want to put myself through that joy of getting some shots I liked only for me to spoil it by scratching the film in development.... should I just send it to the lab :/

Secondly the topic of GEAR and gear bashing is something that I have let cloud my judgement and that has annoyed me. Why should you let others dictate what and why you do or buy what you do. If you enjoy it and want to buy something, don't let others make you feel bad for buying it. Yes it is all well and good being zen with the gear doesn't matter mantra, but without so called gear we wouldn't be capturing anything, we would still be drawing what we see. Gear plays and important part and I don't care who you are, we all know that better gear does make a huge difference. Ask these people who tell you gear doesn't matter what they are shooting and I bet you unless it is for a certain look, most if not all will have a nice camera and lens, even if it is just the one camera. I started out with a Canon 550d and soon learnt its limitations that when I moved up to the Canon 6D I was amazed at what more I was able to capture. I am not saying you can not take good photos on the 550d, but the 6D allowed me to shoot in more situations and I got less missed shots.

The Nikon FM2n is an amazing camera, I got it by pure luck in a bargain bin in a camera shop when visiting a local town. The guy said it had issues, but for £5 I was willing to gamble. The camera works great and because it is fully mechanical doesn't need a battery to operate. The 1/4000 shutter speed is a great addition, making being able to shoot a lower apertures in brighter conditions is fantastic too. For me the FM2n is at the moment my go to film SLR body, I would like to get my hands on the Canon New F-1 as I have heard great things. But for now I highly recommend the FM2n, even over the prized Nikon F3.

I have started a new project inspired by Azriel Knight Published on May 23, 2017 Don't Wait to Photograph What You Love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoaERv1ajkM This episode struck a cord with me and made me start documenting things that I have been saying I will shoot or go back to. I am sure most people have seen his channel, but if not I recommend going and checking it out.

I have a few new projects planned so hope to be feeling more inspired and kick start that passion I had before :)
