Giuliani Op.48 No.11

A fairly straightforward slur study, very similar to No.4.... Until you reach the end! The note values don't really add up, which is curious. That is unless you treat the last 5 notes of the scale run as a hemi-demi-semiquaver quintuplet! Hard to say and harder to play... All said and done when you reach this section put your foot down as far as it'll go and hope!!!! I was terrified of recording this, practising that last run for hours and hours... In the end I got it in one take! I wish I could hear Giuliani play it. I wonder...... Was he the Allan Holdsworth of his day!?

After the Sor 20 studies and the Carcassi 25 studies I asked you all what you'd like next... You asked me to record the set of 24 Giuliani etudes Op.48 so over the next few weeks I'll be uploading them all.

The full title of this work when it was first published in 1813 was "Exercise for the guitar, containing 24 pieces of the greatest difficulty, including various preludes, passaggi and solo pieces." Over 200 years later, by today's standards, I don't think one could describe these pieces as "of the greatest difficulty" although as you will hear there are some extremely difficult sections!
