Orphaned wombat joey comes to visit: this is Ellie

Ellie is an orphan female common wombat joey whose mum died after being hit by a car. Ellie was attacked by crows, who pecked off one of her ears and pecked into one of her eyes, destroying her sight in that eye.
One external ear has been removed and the damaged eye is yet to be surgically removed and tidied up.
She will be fine for release without her binocular vision.

Wombats have a very pragmatic view of life, they just bulldoze through obstacles rather than walking around them. They're quite sturdy.

Her carer was picking up some baby bats from me, and I had the pleasure of little Ellie exploring and ripping up my place for an hour while the babies were being fed. She's so funny, though I guess her antics could become quite wearing after a while.

She remains in care and will be in care till she's fit for survival in the wild.
