I found the lyrics to this song interesting even though I'm NOT a religious person myself, because it leaves the interpretation of "God" open to many unconventional ideas. It also demonstrates the cruelty and harshness of the universe and just how alone our race is. God (if it exists) could be blind to our existence/desires (NOT omnipotent nor benevolent). I think it also suggests that we must make sacrifices to pursue meaning through seeking knowledge, i.e. science.
