Apartment Tour: Living in a Rooftop Apartment (옥탑방) in Seoul

Many older buildings in Seoul have storage units that landlords have converted into apartments. You can often see these featured in Korean dramas, where the main characters have lots of outdoor space and a great city skyline view. In reality, rooftops can be a gamble and have a reputation for being old, dirty, poorly kept, and having extreme temperatures in summer and winter.

I wanted to stay on a budget, but also didn't want to get a roommate. In the end, I took a risk on an apartment I found on Zigbang.co.kr. I signed a 2-year lease on this rooftop in the heart of Mapo-gu, right by Sogang and Ehwa Women's Universities! If you have any questions about what it's like to live in an apartment like this, or about finding your own apartment in Seoul in general, feel free to drop a comment below and ask!
