Shooting at a V1 ! - The Hawker Typhoon

The Hawker Typhoons of 137 Squadron had limited success against the pulse jet engined V1 Flying Bomb.It was a very dangerous operation to fire at the fast moving jet powered bombs and pilots lost their lives doing it . RAF and American fighter pilots soon upped their game with more suitable aircraft for the job such as Tempests, Mustangs, Spitfires, Mosquitos, P61's , P47's and later the Meteor jet .Even a Lancaster of 207 squadrons rear gunner Sgt Marriott shot one out of the sky from 600 to 300 yds, confirmed by four crew on board .One for Bomber Command !
