Marmot pup antics - Columbine Lake, Colorado

One of the largest members of the squirrel family, marmots can weigh up to 11 lbs. On average, only 1/2 of the marmot pups will survive their first year. They are omnivores - they eat grasses, flowers, insects. While feeding, one marmot will stand as a sentinel and will let out a loud, sharp whistle when danger is near. They spend over half of their lives in hibernation too.
