Indigenous Peoples' Day with Raven Bright #shorts

In honor of #indigenouspeoplesday and the 50th anniversary of hip-hop #hiphop50, @4kinship700 presents a film by Diné artists — dancer Raven Bright and cinematographer Wade Adakai — who filmed it under the blue skies of New Mexico to reclaim the land in kinship with their community.

"Honoring our heritage. Celebrating our modernity. Giving vital perspective to futurity.

There are 6 different ways we move: up, down, north, east, south, and west. To fully embrace those directions, we must first reach inside ourselves.

The 7th direction, is the soul dance that derives from the deep roots of hip-hop and Indigenous culture. This radical movement connects us to our ancestors and all around us. This powerful mix of hip-hop, contemporary, and traditional dance embodies Indigenous Futurism. A way to celebrate the past, the present, and the future of our people.” ~ Raven Bright
