Clogged drain, How to unclog | Unclogged episode 6 | Spartan Model 81

Episode 6 in our Unclogged series takes us to the backyard of a home in Mission Viejo, California a quiet, sunny suburb in Orange County, California. Mission Viejo is a beautiful area, quiet, diverse, safe and friendly is how I would describe the area and its residents. I love servicing Mission Viejo, I live right on the boarder of Mission Viejo and grew up/spent a good portion of my youth in Mission Viejo!

This was a two bowl kitchen sink backing up into both bowls, If your sink is only backing up into one side of your double bowl sink the clog is not in your sewer its likely in your 2 part waste T. The T's typically used for 2 part waste has a baffle in it and that baffle diminishes the Inner diameter of the pipe considerably.

Thankfully they had a exterior cleanout, Having an exterior cleanout makes the plumbers job much easier, much cleaner and in turn will save you money. Having an exterior cleanout gives you so many options when it comes to drain cleaning it really can be the difference of night and day. Some plumbers will go on the roof and snake through a vent if you do not have a cleanout. Though ive done this in the past and will likely do it again in the future I dont think its the best idea unless you are very experienced and have a second person on hand to help insure your safety.

Having an exterior cleanout allows your plumber to run water behind his cable which always helps when dealing with clogged lines. I like to run HOT water behind my cable and though ive heard of other plumbers saying they dont like doing this, When I hear their reasoning behind it, It just doesnt make alot of sense to me.

The Spartan Model 81 is the Machine I bought to replace my Spartan 100. I am a HUGE Spartan fan, my father used Spartan and I grew up using the 1065's and 100 machines I had no Idea the Model 81 even existed. I also used the Spartan corded drill snake that the 710 replaced. Ive used Gorlitz machines, SuperVee machines, Mytana, Milwaukee, Ridgid, Cobra and many if not most of all the other big name brands that make sewer machines. Though all of those brands make machines that will get the job done and all of them make very quality machines that im sure have made alot of guys a ton of money, No Drum and cable machines out there can compare to t he Spartan's. The Spartan Cables have absolutely no match and the machines are also very well thought out and designed with the plumber in mind. Though I absolutely loved my Spartan 100 and would recommend it to anybody that wants an extremely versatile machine that can clear lines from 2"-4" and probably larger, The 1/2" Inner core cable is the best cable on the market and coupled with the Spartan motor's and design they are just second to none in my opinion.

Back in 2011 I went to work with a friend who had just started his company, I was doing the majority of the drain work with a Super Vee and a small Brass Craft machine with a 1/2" cable. I would either have to spend alot of time on the job really working the line or I would get a call back. That or half the time I just flat out couldnt clear the line. I brought my Spartan 100 on the truck and rarely got a call back after that.

The Spartan Model 81 in my Opinion if you have the dual drums like I bought I think its the best machine Ive owned thus far, It can unclog drains probably all the way up to 4" I wouldnt be surprised if I could unclog a 4" soft stoppage with it at all. I know I can get a 3" soft stoppage.
