EsDeeKid has blown up in the past couple of months, with songs like ‘Phantom’ (with Rico Ace), ‘LV Sandals’ (with FakeMink) and ‘4 Raws’ earning him millions of monthly listeners and fans.

In fact, his album ‘Rebel’, featuring tracks such as ‘Cali’, ‘Rottweiler’ and ‘Mist’, has climbed its way up the official charts, helping EsDeeKid gain mainstream attention and recognition from fellow rappers Yeat (‘COME N GO’, ‘IDGAF’) and Yung Lean.

Although part of EsDeeKid’s rise in popularity can be attributed to the attention his music has gained on TikTok, and the comparisons to Timothée Chalamet, one of the biggest elements that has led to the ‘Century’ rapper’s breakthrough is his accent.

You see, EsDeeKid is from Liverpool, and therefore speaks with a scouse accent, something that is almost unheard of in hip-hop, especially to U.S. listeners. As a result, his music is more unique, harder hitting and addictive to listen to. Furthermore, EsDeeKid uses a bunch of words and phrases in his songs like ‘plod, ‘jabba’ and ‘kidda’, that further separates him from the crowd.

However, the ‘Panic’ rapper’s distinctive accent and vocabulary looks to be a double edged sword, as many listeners struggle to understand him, especially newcomers. But I’ve come up with a plan to overcome this language barrier…

I’m gonna make a translator that converts EsDeeKid’s lyrics into English. That way, anyone will be able to understand him and can listen to his music without issue. And I’m gonna call it EsDictionary.

Thanks to my translator, the next time you see EsDeeKid on stage, or watch an interview of his, you’ll be able to navigate your way past his thick accent. And the next time you listen to ‘Palaces’, ‘Ferragamo’ or ‘Tapped In’, for example, you’ll have an easy way to convert words like ‘gaff’, ‘divvy’ and ‘scatty’ into ordinary English.

If you’ve watched my videos before, the concept of a rapper translator might seem a little familiar - and that’s because I made a Yeat translator a couple of years ago. There’s a lot of similarities between EsDeeKid and the ‘If We Being Real’ rapper, as they both wear masks and have comparable styles of music. However, building a translator for EsDeeKid was arguably a greater challenge than it was with Yeat, as not only did I have to contend with EsDee’s vocabulary, but his accent too.

After building EsDictionary, with the help of developer Cyrus, I shared it with Linguistics and Language Expert Dominic Watt, who gave me some insight into the ‘Tartan’ rapper’s accent and lexicon. Following my conversation with Dominic, I decided to share my creation with EsDeeKid’s community on Reddit.

But how robust is EsDictionary? Does it work properly? And will it survive Reddit? You’ll have to watch to find out!
