Attribute Management in Global Mapper

Synonymous with the "I" in GIS, attribution is the data associated with features that are spatially represented on the map. Attributes describe the feature and facilitate various filtering, analysis, and querying functions that expose geographic patterns or distributions in the data. Collectively managing attributes has been compared to organizing information in a spreadsheet or database where records can be sorted, deleted, and edited. Global Mapper offers an array of tools for organizing attributes and for exposing this information through thematic mapping and spatial analysis.

In the latest of our monthly webinar series, we explore the attribute management capabilities of Global Mapper. Topics include:
• Manually adding or editing attributes for selected features
• Creating custom Feature Types to automatically add the required attributes when digitizing
• Joining attributes from an external file
• Creating new attributes by applying a calculation to existing attribute fields
• Creating an active hyperlink in the attribute table
• Querying and filtering using the Search function
• Analyzing the spatial distribution of attribute patterns through thematic mapping
