One of the few songs on this album I don’t own the vinyl of. Ideally I would have liked to remix the original Lamont Dozier version, which is for me the best. He now owns the rights to his catalogue but he never replied to our mails. Realistically he won’t be short of money and may well have no interest in remixes of his material. I then tried to get the Ritchie Havens cover but the label didn’t have the multi. At that point I thought, maybe I should consider the Odyssey version. After all it’s a very faithful and well-executed version produced by veteran Steve Tyrell. I guess at the time of release there was no reason for me to buy it as I was very familiar with Lamont and Odyssey was all over pop radio almost immediately. Being from the 80s its a little more electronic and some nice synth parts but still with a live drummer under the Linn drum handclaps. For many less clued up punters it probably is the original.
