I like to think of the crack going down the middle of this piece as symbolic for the inherent flaws and imperfections in all of us. I could have placed the face in a few different areas to avoid the crack, which would have made things technically easier for me. But I chose to place it where the crack would run right down the middle. Choosing to embrace flaws, in others and within ourselves, can be very difficult to do. But we are all capable of doing it. When you love someone, you make the choice to embrace their imperfections. Loving yourself entails embracing your own flaws. This sort of love is important because it doesn’t always come easy. I think when we are at our best, we choose love when it’s difficult to do so.
