Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, high as fuck in Oakland, 1988

This is the infamous March 1988 Oakland, California show that Jeff Young referred to in an interview, where Dave Mustaine was so fucked up he launched into long rants between songs. The experience was particularly humiliating for Young because Mustaine's former bandmates, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, were watching from the side stage. Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is only an audio version of this show out there, but I have compiled only the announcements into one funny, sad, shocking clip for you (plus one sample of Mustaine mangling the "Hook in Mouth" solo). This is not meant to mock or belittle Megadeth as I respect much of their music and have seen them several times (in 1995 and 1998); this is more a testament to Mustaine battling what would kill most people and going on to record one of the best albums of all time, "Rust in Peace."

In this rant are references to the documentary Megadeth appeared in later that year, "The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years"; a speech on why California is better than any other state; stabs at Kirk Hammett and Tipper Gore; a longer-than-usual ode to Cliff Burton; a mention of Mustaine's on again-off again fiancee (at the time, he was apparently single, though five or six months later he booted Jeff Young out of the band for allegedly hitting on this woman); and even an endorsement, however garbled/drunken, of white supremacy!! Enjoy this madness!
