Greetings to you and wishing you safety and wellbeing at this time. Please allow me to share my little story. I ran 9 straight Boston Marathons from 2011 to 2019. In attempting to qualify for #10 last year by running 8 marathons around the country, I earned one BQ (Boston Qualifier). However, my BQ time missed the cutoff by 36 seconds, since thousands more apply than can be accepted, due to runner field limitations. I turned my attention instead to running the 2020 Boston Marathon for charity. It’s my honor to be accepted to run for the Massachusetts General Hospital Emergency Response Team. This has very special meaning to me. You see, there was one year of the 9 when I arrived late. After the bus ride to the start line, I cut in line not knowing where I was. It turns out I was closer to the elite runners than toward the back of the pack, where I belonged. I finished about 20 minutes sooner than I would have, and met my wife at the finish line. We proceeded down into the subway. It was right about then that the bombs went off. Regrettably, I was not there at the finish to assist as I would normally have been. I could have helped stop some bleeding or bandage a wound. Running the 2020 Boston Marathon on September 14 for this cause will be the least I can do. In 2014, the Mass General Emergency Response Team was created in recognition of the lifesaving response of hospital employees following the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.
