Biography of John Garang de Mabior; founding father and symbol of unity in today's South Sudan

John Garang de Mabior is regarded as the founding father and symbol of unity in today's South Sudan. He led a revolution in Sudan against the government  before South Sudan became independent. Against all odds, he was able to secure a peace agreement and rose to become the First-Vice-President of Sudan, a feat no other Southerner had achieved before then. He was not only a general guarded with weapons, he was also an intellectual who could wield the pen as well, being a PhD holder in the field of economics. Garang was born on the 23d of June 1945, into a poor Dinka family in Wangulei village of South Sudan. He suffered the tragedy of losing his parents by the age of 10. Fortunately, a relative of his took up the responsibility to pay his school fees.
